The existing air-to-water heat pump in an eight-apartment building failed completely after repeated faults and a damaged compressor. Heating and domestic hot water had to be supplied temporarily with electricity. A technical assessment recommended replacing the heat pump. After inspecting the system, however, we identified a way to keep it in operation through targeted repairs and improvements to the hydronics.
Alongside the repair carried out by the manufacturer’s service team, we replaced the heating circuit pump and domestic hot water charging pump. We also installed a correctly sized plate heat exchanger, two 9 kW electric heating elements, and an air and dirt separator. During commissioning, the system reached 55 °C in both the heating and domestic hot water storage tanks without any faults. The existing heat pump could therefore remain in use, avoiding a complete replacement for the time being.
Three properties, three unusual installation situations: a unit without a suitable rear wall, a recessed ceiling cassette and a concealed installation in a sloping roof. We planned each solution individually and coordinated all other trades involved.
In Zumikon, we replaced the existing heat pump with the appropriate NIBE successor model. The new unit had to continue providing heating, domestic hot water and cooling from a very small plinth – and we also brought the faulty wine-cooling unit back into operation.
