Adding solar electricity to an existing log-heating system

At Im Hüdel in Neftenbach, our PV partner installed a photovoltaic system with SWO / SwissWatt One solar panels, a Sigenergy inverter and battery storage. We added an extended energy management system. When the photovoltaic installation produces more electricity than the house and battery can absorb, the remaining surplus is used to generate heat. We integrated the large heating-water storage system already serving the existing log boiler. This allows solar electricity to be stored as heat and used to warm the house. The existing log boiler remains part of the installation.

Project Description

Managing heating-water storage and hot water with Loxone

We use ASKOHEAT heating elements to generate heat electrically. An ASKOWALL unit with an integrated circulation pump connects this heat source to the heating system. The domestic hot-water cylinder is also heated electrically. Energy management runs on Loxone, with the connected systems communicating over Modbus TCP. This brings photovoltaics, battery storage and the existing heating equipment together so that additional solar surplus can be used for heating and hot water.
